The 6 pillars of health

Many leaders chase performance without considering the foundation underneath it: their health. Your business outcomes can only match the quality of your personal well-being. When energy dips, sleep suffers or stress builds, performance inevitably declines.
My coaching framework centres on six functional health pillars:
1. Nutrition. The food you eat directly impacts physical and mental function. Whole foods, good hydration and fewer processed items yield quick improvements.
2. Movement. Consistent activity sharpens cognition and builds resilience. You don’t need to be an athlete — just keep moving daily.
3. Sleep. Quality rest amplifies everything else. Without it, other efforts hit diminishing returns.
4. Stress management. Resilience built through breathing, activity and healthy boundaries stops stress escalating into burnout.
5. Avoiding risky substances. Alcohol is a primary performance inhibitor — reducing or removing it improves sleep, clarity and emotional regulation.
6. Social connection. Meaningful relationships strengthen resilience. Prioritise the uplifting ones; release the draining ones.
Sustained high performance starts with treating your health as the foundation for effective leadership.
